HECATE – Comment est la nuit ?

Created in the french city of Tours in 2009, Hecate is a Black Metal band which has known many periods. With its first demo, Sous l’ombre du colosse (2010), and its following album, Chroniques d’un autre temps (2013), Hecate drew its influences, in a rather sparse way, from Pagan, Heavy or Doom metal, integrated in a canvas of an Epic and Melodic Black Metal. Its next EP Apeiron (2017), on the other hand, was designed by taking more Stoner/Sludge-oriented shades, and opted for a Black Metal more oriented towards Death Metal, darker and more aggressive, and much less bright and lively.

The band’s maturity really came with the dyad Une voix venue d’ailleurs (2018) and Ode au désert suspendu (2020), when Hecate had succeeded to define its intimate style, with a Black Metal playing on musical chiaroscuro and based on a variety of emotions and tessitura; they represent the synthesis of everything that each of our members went through for almost ten years, and everything that we wanted to inject into Black Metal. At the same time, our lyrics, mainly influenced by french modern and contemporary poetry, focus more on formal beauty, plays of sonority or explosion of the meaning of language than on well-defined themes; but some of them can be recursive, as the flow of time, the matter of human desire and body, loneliness or oniric dreams.

After several years of breakup, Hecate has decided to return under the spotlights once more in order, with a new line-up, to deliver its new creation, Comment est la nuit ?, which pushes even further its style and embodies the pinnacle of what they have tried to forge since its creation.
